FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

GENERAL QUESTIONS:

Q: Where are you located?
A: We have only one location in Pomona, CA; home to our retail store, training facility, and warehouse. The business originally started in Downtown Los Angeles (Chinatown) in 1985, but we officially closed that store in the summer of 2009 and moved the entire operation to Pomona, CA. (See Location page on website for directions.)

Q: Do you do permanent make-up, eyelash, or skincare service at your facility?
A: No, we no longer have a service salon, but we can refer you to an artist/esthetician who trained at KP or a client that uses our products, in or around your area. If you are interested in getting FREE eyelash extensions, eyelash perm, permanent eyebrows, eyeliner, or lip liner, you can volunteer to be a model for our students' training at our school. Please keep in mind that these are students in training. However, there is one model for 1-2 students, and each class (15 students maximum) is supervised by two KP instructors/professional estheticians with over 20 years of experience. Models must sign a consent form, and can return for free retouches with future training classes held monthly. Please call to schedule an appointment. (See Training page on website for class schedule.)

Q: What type of training do you do?
A: We have permanent make-up, eyelash extension, eyelash perm, and skincare equipment (microdermabrasion/oxygen, multi-function/ultrasonic/microcurrent) classes. Free seminars are also given to professionals who previously trained with K.P. and/or have recently purchased a K.P. PMU kit. (See Training page on website for more details). Students receive a 10% discount on selected items the last day of class.

Q: Why should I choose your training school?
A: K.P. training courses are led by licensed cosmetologists with over 20 years of experience and knowledge about PMU & skincare. The cost of instruction is minimal considering the value of the products that are included in the training package. For instance, our 3-day PMU course is $980, and includes the PMU machine kit & products that the student will need to get started in his/her PMU business (The kit itself is valued at $500)! In addition, students receive a discount on first-time purchases and can always contact K.P./our instructor for future advice and referrals. More importantly, K.P. manufactures our own line of cosmetic tattooing machines & accessories so students can have the comfort of knowing that they are not only purchasing equipment at reasonable (nearly wholesale) costs, but that they are using a reliable product that has been leading in the industry for over 20 years.

In an ongoing commitment to give our students the best instruction possible, we limit class capacity to twelve students per course. Unlike other training courses, human models are scheduled for each student's hands-on experience. Nightly homework assignments, a PMU course manual, and an exam are given. Students must pass a final exam in order to receive K.P.'s certificate of completion. It is up to the student to research their own state license requirements and cosmetic tattooing regulations in their state.

Q: How can I be a distributor of your products?
A: For distributor accounts, we require a minimum purchase of $2000 per order to receive our discount wholesale rate. Each discount varies with each distributor and the products ordered, but discounts can be as high as 40%. Wholesale applicants need to complete a standard account application. Please give us some additional information on your company, what products you are interested in purchasing (permanent make up, skincare equipment, eyelash extensions, etc.), your clientele, and your projected order quantity. Please request to speak with a KP wholesale representative to discuss distributor/wholesale accounts.

ORDERS:

** A minimum purchase of $25 (not including S&H charges) is required for each shipping order. **

Q: Do you offer wholesale prices or discounts?
A: For purchases over $2,000, there is a 10% discount. Wholesale and instructor discounts vary depending on volume and individual accounts.

Q: How do I place an order?
A: New customers need to complete an account application form in order to place their first order (see "New Accounts" to download an application form or call for one). Once your application has been processed, an individual customer number will be issued. Orders can be placed via phone, fax, or email. If you are ordering by fax or email, please remember to include your customer number, item number with detailed description, product quantity, shipping preference, and method of payment with an updated, accurate shipping address. Please allow 1-2 full business days for us to process you order. Orders are confirmed by telephone with the customer before products are shipped out.

Q: Must you have a customer number to order?
A: Yes, especially for faster service on phone orders. If you do not have a customer number off-hand, we can find it using your phone number or name, but please allow extra time for us complete the search for your information. If you do not have a customer number, an application form to create a KP account is available online; or you can call to have one faxed, emailed, or sent to you.

Q: Will I be charged sales tax?
A: We are required by California Law to charge sales tax on all CA state orders. We do not charge sales tax for all other states.

Q: What if I have a seller's permit, will I still be charged CA sales tax?
A: If you have a CA seller's permit and are tax exempt, then we will need a copy of your permit on file. This is only for wholesale, resale item accounts.

Q: Can I pay using a check?
A: No, we do not accept personal checks. We accept money orders or cashier's checks, all major credit cards (within the U.S. only), bank direct deposit, or wire transfer payments (for international orders). A $10 fee is added for C.O.D. (Collect On Delivery) UPS domestic orders; only money orders or cashier's checks accepted. C.O.D charges usually increase annually.

PERMANENT MAKE-UP, EYELASH EXTENSION, & PRODUCT INFO:

Q: How big is a bottle of pigment?
A: The pigments are in a 1/2 ounce bottle.

Q: How many clients can one bottle of pigment cover?
A: It depends on how much a technician uses. Each bottle fills about 30 small pigment containers.

Q: Do your pigments contain iron oxide?
A: Yes. Pigments containing iron oxide helps the color last longer and is less likely to cause allergic reactions compared to organic or vegetable based pigments.

Q: Are your pigments FDA approved?
A: Permanent Cosmetics is categorized under Tattooing, and tattooing is not regulated by the FDA.
"Tattoo inks themselves are cosmetics and by federal law, the colors used in them must be shown to be safe. However, none is approved and the inks used in tattooing have not been strictly regulated by the FDA."

Q: Can I get an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) if I have permanent make-up?
A: Yes, you can have an MRI done safely and effectively with no ill side effects or diagnostic problems. However, you should inform the physician performing the MRI procedure that you have permanent cosmetics. Since the micropigment contains iron oxide, this metallic substance can interfere with the electromagnetic fields used in MRI procedures. To avoid a potential problem, technologists use gel filled goggles, or a cream, to cover the area where iron oxide is implanted. However, since permanent make-up has such a low concentration of iron oxide in a small area of implantation, the possibility of a diagnostic problem is remote.

Q: Can I get an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) if I have eyelash extensions?
A: Eyelash extensions should be removed before getting an MRI.

Q: Can your pigments be used for body tattooing?
A: No, KP micropigment colors should NOT be used for body tattoos. KP PMU pigments were created for permanent cosmetics specifically, NOT for deeper penetration into the skin as done in body tattooing. Traditionally, tattoo pigments are more water based for deeper penetration.

Q: What are your most popular pigment colors?
A: Our 12 top selling colors are the following (in no particular order): Golden Blonde (KP-4), Ashe Blonde (KP5), Cocoa (KP-9), Jet Black (KP-11), Dark Brown (KP-12), Light Brown (KP-14), Taupe #1 (KP-18), Skin #1 Ivory (KP-24), Pink #4 Earth (KP-31), Red #1 Cherry Red (KP-35), Red #2 Wine Burgundy (KP-36), Red #10 Truffle (KP-44).

Q: Does your pigment have an expiration date?
A: No.

Q: What's the difference between the Bacitracin Ointment and the Petrolatum USP?
A: Petrolatum is recommended for people who are allergic to antibiotic creams. Bacitracin Ointment is an antibiotic cream (like Neosporin) that promotes healing after receiving the permanent make-up procedure. It also helps keep the skin moist and comfortable. As of late 2007, we have discontinued selling Petrolatum USP.

Q: What's your top selling, or most requested machine?
A: KP-96 is our best selling machine, popular for its strong motor, durability, and versatility with its disposable parts and stainless steel design.

Q: What makes KP machines different from others?
A:KP machines are designed and created by permanent make-up artists for PMU artists. As a result, the quality and efficiency of the machines are tested again-and-again before they're sold to the market. Every artist/esthetician has their own level of skill and preferences in what they like about their machine; so KP strives to offer an array of machines that are versatile enough for use by the beginning novice to the advanced artist/trainer. KP machines are not only affordable, but created to last for these growing artists and estheticians.

Q: What's the difference between the KP-96 and the PL-2010 (formerly the Plante-2700)?
A: The PL-2010 is shaped like a pen, made of plastic and metal, and has more disposable parts (it's a 7-part system). The KP-96 (a 5-part system) is L-shaped so that a bigger part rests on your hand and gives you more control; its stainless steel design also makes it a little heavier and quieter than the PL-2010. The KP-96 was devised after traditional tattoo guns with one needle that reciprocates up and down. The PL-2010 is an upgraded version of the Plante-2700 with improved internal parts and motor. The KP-96 and PL-2010 use the same compatible parts except the KP-96 does not use a chamber and transmission tube.

Q: What's the difference between the KP-96 and the Midas?
A: They are the same style except that the KP-96 is silver and the Midas is gold colored (with a longer sleeve). KP-96 needles are two inches and Midas needles are three inches with a plastic chuck already attached to it. The KP-96 uses a metal chuck which is a separate part that must be screwed onto the needle. The Midas "Velvet Needle"™ is rougher ridged which provides more color and less needed touchups. It works great for full-colored permanent cosmetic lips, camouflage, scar reduction and areola procedures. An included foot pedal with the machine allows for hands-free power control. (KP-96 machines do not include a foot pedal).

Q: Do I need to oil my PMU machine?
A: Yes, at the end of the day after use or regularly. Use mineral oil only. This will help prolong the machine life.

Q: My PMU machine is not working, can I have it repaired?
A: We will accept a machine for repair up to a year since the date of purchase, so the machine must be less than one-year old. We do not guarantee that the machine is fixable. If the machine is repairable, a $30 fee plus shipping & handling will be charged. Please send your machine insured (for tracking purposes) to KP Beauty Products, Attn: Repair, 1968 W. Holt Ave., Pomona, CA with the following information: 1. Copy of the invoice for that machine 2. A note stating the problem with the machine 3. Contact information including customer number, current phone number, and shipping address. Repairs can take 2-3 months to complete. We highly recommend having a second PMU machine as backup at all times.

Q: How much does it cost the esthetician [for PMU supplies] per client?
A: It costs the PMU tattoo artist under $2 per client depending on the machine.

Q: How big is a bottle of iLash extension glue?
A: The iLash glue is in a 1/2 ounce bottle.

Q: What is the best way to prevent my eyelash extension glue from drying up? What is the shelf life?
A: Store the glue in a cool, dry place away from heat. Many estheticians claim that storing the glue in the refrigerator also helps prevent the glue from drying up. If this is done, we recommend taking the glue out of the fridge one full day prior to usage. DO NOT microwave! The shelf life is approximately 2 months after the bottle has been opened.

Q: How many applications does one eyelash extension kit cover?
A: The 1/2 oz bottle of glue can cover about 50 applications; and the lashes included in the KP iLash Kit covers about 100 applications.

Q: How many applications does one eyelash perm kit over?
A: The eyelash perm kit has about 50 applications (note: kit only includes 32 eyelash rods).

Q: Why is the water in my facial steamer turning yellow?
A: First, you should always use distilled water with your facial steamer. Every 1-2 weeks, it is recommended that you let the machine run with 1/4 cup of vinegar mixed with 3/4 cup of water to clean your steamer and prevent the water from turning yellow.

Q: The product I received does not look like the one pictured in the brochure or on the website.
A: Please be assured that K.P. strives to provide customers with quality products. As a result, we rotate items based on our tests, our estheticians usage, and customer feedback. Thus, products (particularly in eyelash extension kits and skincare equipment) are subject to change based on availability and without notice.
